Thomas Pichler - Olympic Games Selection Announcement

- Category: Thomas Pichler
The time has come where only one man will be left standing. After a rollercoaster 6 months where Joshua Jefferis and I have been fighting head to head to gain selection the decision has been made. The selection process has seen the both of us travel to London to post qualifying scores at the Olympic Test Event in January. Early March saw us touching down in the United States to compete at the Pacific Rim Championships and then onto Canada for the Kyle Shewfelt Gymnastics Festival the following week. The final selection competition was the Australian Championships in Sydney which finished up on the 26th May.
After careful consideration of the results from the above competition, the selection committee have chosen Joshua Jefferis to represent Australia at the London Olympic Games. Therefore, I have been named reserve should Joshua be unable to compete come July 28.
Although I am disappointed not to be selected, Joshua has been the stronger and more consistent of the two of us. He proved that he is Australia’s number one all rounder by taking out the title at Australian Championships and has my full support leading into the games. I have no doubt that Joshua will not only represent the gymnastics community proudly but also the whole country.
My position as reserve means that I will be training alongside Joshua in the lead up to the games. We will be attending a training camp in Canberra before flying to England in early July to continue training in Waveney prior heading to London for the games. Unfortunately, I will be non accredited athlete, meaning I won’t be living in the village, be attending the ceremonies or receiving the uniform, luckily I know a friend who will be accredited and has similar clothes size to me.
