Training
I’m having a bit of a break from Kayaking and have decided not to go overseas this year to race. I haven't had a winter at home for 3 years now and decided I just need to spend some time with my family! I am the type of person that cannot do nothing though, so even though I'm having a break from Kayaking I am still training… For my off season I have decided to train with my surf club and start to swim, run, board paddle and ski paddle – basically be an ironwoman!
Recovery
I like to have a massage as often as possible, but I also do a lot of stretching and self massage at home! Without this I think my body would either fall apart or seize up and not be able to move!
Injuries
No injuries to report which is good!.... TOUCH WOOD!
Nutrition
I am not a big fan of dieting. I try and match my daily intake with the amount of energy I need. For an example if I have a massive training day tomorrow, I would have a bigger dinner tonight!
Mental Preparation
I am apart of the Maroochydore Surf Life Saving Club and as most of Australia knows we lost one of our members at the recent Aussie titles. This has really been hard for myself, and the rest of the club to deal with and it has definitely put everything into perspective. This is most of the reason why I have decided to stay home for the winter and train in the surf and be with my family! So I suppose I am tackling new challenges in regards to my training, whilst also trying to deal with grief. As a surf club we are sticking together and supporting each other!
Upcoming events
I am competing in the Noosa Blue Water 2km Swim this weekend and will be doing lots of little swimming, running, board and ski paddling races like this in my off season! I love a new challenge! My next Kayaking regatta wont be until late this year.
Funny Situations
Starting swimming training again is definitely quite hilarious! I haven’t been swimming training for about 4 years!
New Equipment
My new Nelo Ocean Ski is on its way over from production in Portugal… I cant wait to jump on it!
Quotes
Someday, someone might make a movie of your life….Make sure it doesn’t go straight to DVD!
