Training

I have been training 5 days a week about 2.5 hours a session. Training has been going really well, I have recently been doing lots of double repetition work on 100% of my personal bests. Over the next few weeks I will be maxing out on most of my skill lifts as singles, so I am excited to see what I will be able to do. I have really been enjoying my training as of late and cant wait to see some great results over the next month or so of competitions.

Recovery

My recovery has mainly consisted of making sure I get enough rest, stretch properly and maintain a high intake of protein and supplements to ensure my muscles recover properly. I have been seeing the physio, chiropractor and massage therapist fortnightly.

Injuries

No injuries, crossing my fingers it stays that way.

Nutrition

As well as eating 3 main sized meals a day, I have been snacking on protein bars and fruit 3 times a day and also having 3 whey protein isolate shakes a day.

Mental Preparation

I have been doing a bit of preparation by myself in regards to considering starting weights for a state competition coming up. The weights I need to start on are a lot higher than I would usually start on, which makes me a bit nervous, but at the same time I am really excited to give them a go so I can’t wait.

Upcoming Comps

I have a club competition at the SA Weightlifting Assoc. in the SASI gym on the 26th May which is my last chance to achieve ‘A’ grade to qualify for Australian Senior/Open Nationals. ‘A’ grade is currently a total of 146kgs, my best total is currently 138kgs. Considering training has been going well, I am expecting to achieve ‘A’ grade, I hope! Soon after, I will be travelling with the rest of the Australian Team from the 4th to the 10th of June (lifting on the 6th) to Samoa to compete in the Senior Oceania Championships, which is also an Olympic qualification event. I am very excited about this competition as this is the first Australian team I have made since I was a junior lifter. I am nervous, however I will be surrounded by pros and hopefully I will just be able to go with the flow. The following week I travel to Brisbane from 15th to the 17th of June to hopefully lift at the Australian Senior Nationals.

Recent Events

I recently travelled to Sydney to help promote the Australian Weightlifting Federation where we conducted a demo competition. I elected fairly light weights to start on at the demo and ended up missing my first lift which I was really disappointed with. I learnt that I get nervous lifting in front of 200-300 people! It was a great experience which will be perfect preparation for lifting in Samoa at the Oceania Championships. The next day I started with the same weights and got all 6 attempted lifts which I was really happy with.

Training Equipment

Received some new training compression tights from 2XU, thank you! Got some calf stirrups for competitions, another thank you! Also ordered an Adidas weightlifting suit which I absolutely love for training, however I am extremely allergic to L. My Australian weightlifting suit is also Adidas, however hopefully because it’s a newer model and the colours are different I should be fine! Hopefully…

Liifestyle

The Hunger Games was pretty good, can’t wait for the next one to come out. Been listening to a fair bit of the Temper Trap lately, love their new stuff and have been recently introduced to some Hermitude and a song called Little Talks by Of Monsters and Men.
