Lucas "Big Daddy" Browne - Post International Debut

- Category: Lucas Browne

Matt: What a start to your International career, a win by KO in the 4th round?
Lucas: I was very happy with the way it all went, my prep here and over there was good and I adjusted very well to the time difference and cold.... and of course the tko result is the best part
Matt: Reports of the fight where that for such a big guy, 119kg, you surprised everyone with your movement and patience in the ring?
Lucas: There's no secret about my size, but I've always prided myself on being able to do whatever I wanted no matter how big I am, so to me it's just natural to be able to move like I do but to others seeing it for the first time it's something new. In regards to the patience, I put that down to my years working the doors of pubs and clubs, only now I don't have to worry about getting bottled from behind...
Matt: Take us through your game plan for the fight against Butlin and how you executed it?
Lucas: We knew that he was going to have a nice tight guard and that he was also a big lad who would last the distance and has against some big names in the past, so the game plan was always to keep the jab working and keep moving and let my power do it's thing...
Matt: What did you take away from the fight?
Lucas: It was experience and a different setting to boxing that I took away from this fight, you can't beat experience and at this point it's what I need. It's also beneficial to be able to spend some time around people like Ricky Hatton and his team to gain a different perspective on things and pic up some tricks along the way...
Matt: With such an impressive win, you have made a lot of the UK boxing community stand up and take notice of you, with talks of heading back over there shortly and train?
Lucas: I wanted to make an impression in the UK but without being silly, and I think I did that but I'm heading back over in June for my next fight and will be looking at stepping it up a level and not being as safe as I think I was this time round. I want to be exciting at the same time so the next fight will definitely have some sparks...
Matt: You were doing all different types of training leading into the fight, what was your fav session and what was your least fav session?
Lucas: I always do different things in regards to training, I think you need to keep mixing it up or your body just gets use to it and doesn't keep growing. I really enjoy sparring, especially with my mate Cronje, who is a big cruiser weight. He makes me work harder and keeps me moving, we also give each other positive feed back during and after the session so it helps us to grow as fighters... The least enjoyable thing about my training is the fact you have to repeat an action so many time, now I realize it's something that needs to be done but it does get somewhat boring at times...
Matt: What are your plans after this fight?
Lucas: my plans are to fight as much as I can and will be heading back to the UK in June and just want to continue winning and learning and doing the best I possibly can...
