Matt: Congrats on being selected in the Aussie Stingers team for London! How does it feel knowing you are going to the Olympics?
Jane: It is an awesome feeling. When I got the phone call telling me I was in, the first feeling was definitely relief. Then I was overcome with a mixture of emotions, tears were falling I was laughing, I couldn’t name it.
Matt: Are you nervous at all, or more so excited you just can't wait to get there?
Jane: I get a bit nervous before games, but at the moment I’m just reeling with excitement. At times if my mind is not on it, someone will ask me something about the Olympics and I’m brought back to the now, and the excitement rears its beautiful head!
Matt: Achieving this goal to play for your country at the Olympics, will that transfer into your personal life in regards to giving you the confidence to go after your dreams?
Jane: I don’t think I’ve ever been short of a dream chasing goal, but this is certainly something to add to my ammunition.
Matt: Biggest question on everyone's lips, how is that shoulder of yours hanging in there?
Jane: It’s behaving very well actually. When I’m away at camps or on tour its generally quite good because I have access to treatment daily and am not hunched at a desk at work. It definitely has given me an appreciation of ergonomics and posture in the workplace.
Matt: What is install for the Aussie Stingers from now till London?
Jane: We head to Montenegro on June 30th for a two week training camp, and then to the Australian Institute of Sport’s European base in Varese in the north of Italy for more training and then to London on July 23rd. We are so excited about the Montenegro leg as none of us have been to Montenegro before. Montenegro are very strong in men's water polo but I have never seen a women's team, so it will be interesting. I might be playing tour guide as I have holidayed in Croatia, so if we get a day off we might do a day trip to Dubrovnik.
Matt: If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be?
Jane: Shrinking Violet – because I’m the smallest in the team and perhaps one of the loudest
Matt: If you were an animal what kind of animal would you be?
Jane: My mum talks about this all the time, she thinks being a lizard sunbaking on a rock all day would be pretty cool. I guess that sounds nice, but I’d probably miss the water. Maybe a turtle like the ones from Finding Nemo?
Matt: Favourite outfit?
Jane: Wow, I’m sure I’ll love the Olympic uniforms but we’re yet to see them. Hmmm, maybe one of my dresses with some killer heels.
Matt: Jane Moran's Top 5 tips on travel?
Jane:
- Take your pillow EVERYWHERE
- Take washing powder – it’s surprising how popular you get on the 3rd week of a tour in the middle of nowhere, people are on their last change of clothes and find out you have washing powder.
- Medications – my travel bag is full of the “just in case” medications. Often they don’t get used, but are very handy for when its required.
- Bikini and heels – you never know when you’ll need them – not together…unless that’s your thing
- Full change of clothes on the long haul flights – we often will take up to 40 hours to get door to door, so its definitely nice to put on some fresh clothes
Matt: Anything you would like to say to the fans?
Jane: We’ve found out that Foxtel will be showing all of our games LIVE for the first time in Olympic Games history – so if you don’t have it, check out some of the Olympic packs. Channel 9 will show some iof our games, but probably more towards the end of the competition.
Hot off the press, Aquadiva swimwear have just released their “Olympic Edition” swimwear – each of the 5 Olympians supported by Aquadiva have their own colour – check it out at http://aquadivasponsorship.com/jane_moran and the button “Click here to support me please” directs you to the online Aquadiva store.
Definitely keep in touch through the blogs via The Sports Vault.
Thanks, and I hope to bring back something nice and shiny from London (gold is my colour)
