Gokhan Turkyilmaz - Post Brace Fight
- Details
- Category: Gokhan Turkyilmaz
Matt: First off takes us through your last fight at Brace?
Gokhan: My fight in the last Brace was against Sam Bastin. It was a good fight for myself as I had a good 4 months off and it was a fight that would put me in a frame of mind to kick off 2012 again back in to the MMA scene.
Sam and I stood and traded strikes, I knew he was a good counter boxer, but I knew he would not be able handle my pace. He landed a few good shots but that made me more hungry to come back and trade with him. I then took him down and dominated on top keeping heaving with my positions on top and striking smartly.
Matt: You won by decision, did you feel you had done enough to win the fight?
Gokhan: I felt I could have done a bit more, however I did not want to risk giving up positions in the fight if I went aggressive. It is seen clearly I was dominant in all aspects. I now have established myself as a all round fighter and learning from each fight. My corner was exceptional my training partner Damien Brown and cut man Ben Livingstone was very precise and clear during the fight. Being a smarter fighter rather than a brawler.. Be the tactician not brawler is now the mentality.
Matt: Take us through what goes through your head when you are walking out on the way to the ring?
Gokhan: Honestly the feeling is better than sex.. haha, the lead up the crowed, the support from friends and family.. It's a fight however it just feels like a sparring session, the more experience you have the more easier it is to take it all in and just enjoy. Just another hard training session.
Matt: You nickname is Pitbull, how did that come about?
Gokhan: I think because I have short man angry syndrome.. haha.. No, I'm a nice guy.. Pitbull was given to me from a few people.. My fighting style, dominance, too stubborn to give up, aggressiveness and I kind of have a Thialgo Alves style of fighting (no where near his level obviously) but Im better looking.
Matt: How long before the fight do you like to start getting ready and do you have any rituals you do before each fight?
Gokhan: I had a good 6 week prep for the fight, just had a non stop couple of week whilst moving from NSW transitioning from states and finding a new gym, but once I settled in to Brisbane with my new gym Integrated MMA with Danny Higgins and Adrian Pang it was back into Business. I train upto 6 days a week 4 of those twice a day with a good conditioning session mixing it up with CROSSFIT.
No rituals, just have a good replenishment of fluids post weigh in, good amount of food. I like to have a bit of a workout day of the fight get food and fluid moving, pray and have a 45 min Nanna nap before heading to the event.
Matt: Ever forgot anything you needed for a fight?
Gokhan: To shave my chest maybe? haha
Matt: You have recently moved to Brisbane and joined up with the Integrated team, how has the move been?
Gokhan: It has definitely excelled my training and put it to the next level. My coaches and training partners are the best tools I utilize every one at the gym plays their part and shares the knowledge.
The move has been worth it and like to thank Danny Higgins, Adrian Pang, Tony Green and all my training partners especially Damien Brown for all the help.
Matt: What do you find the toughest aspect of prepping for a fight?
Gokhan: Definitely that stupid sauna doing a weight cut. I had to drop 6.4 kg of fluid the last fight.. Yes I am FAT..
Matt: Where to from here for you?
Gokhan: At the moment I'm prepping for Nitro 6 I will be fighting Isaac Tisdell. Also at the mean time I will be trying out for "The ultimate fighter" In Sydney on June 12th.
There are a few other fights lined up but they have not been confirmed as yet.
I would like to take the time to thanks my GYM INTEGRATED MMA BRISBANE, MY CORNER MAN BEN LIVINGSTONE, MY SPONSORS QA SIGNS, FTP CLOTHING, FORTUNE TATTOO PARLOR, NUTRITION UNDERGROUND AND I SUPPORT FIGHTER'S AGAINST CHILD ABUSE.
