Matt: Victory on Thursday night, take us through the fight?
Tim: 1st round I just kind of sussed him out a bit to see what he was like. He was a lot bigger than me so the 2nd and 3rd round I kept my distance and counter fought, causing a bit of damage to his lead leg. In the 3rd round break he refused to answer the 4th round bell and didn’t want to continue. So I won tko.
Matt: Did you know much about your opponent? Do you like to research an opponent before you fight them?
Tim: Not at all, when I came to the venue I was originally meant to fight another guy, but they said I was too big for him, I fight in Australia at 62kg but on the night I was sitting at around 69kg. Someone else had pulled out in another fight, so they said to match me up with him. He was a Scotsman who lives and trains here. He had 30 fights and weighed 76kg. Even though he was a lot bigger and more experienced Darren my coach said to take it anyways. So it was great win to have!
In Australia I usually know who I’m fighting which is good because you can devise a plan against them in the ring and hopefully come out on top. In Thailand though you don’t generally know who it is. Both are good.
Matt: How did you pull up after the fight?
Tim: Yeah, no injuries, It was quite a clean fight so pulled up pretty good!
Matt: You have been training out of Sinbi Muay Thai Training Camp, how does that compare to training back at home?
Tim: Training at Sinbi is really good, I have an amazing pad holder here, Wang, he teaches me heaps and pushes me crazy. They have dumbbells and kettlebells here to which I use for conditioning as well. It’s pretty much the same kind of training back home, Daz pushes me crazy hard to and is always feeding me technical tips. Only difference is that here you can train twice a day without any distractions or having to worry about work.

Matt: Have you been implementing any new training methods or styles?
Tim: No, haven’t implemented any new training methods this time round. Just been going hard.
Matt: Give us a rundown of a typical training day?
Tim: Morning Session: 20min Hard Run, 10min Skip, Stretching, Shadow Boxing, 3-5x3min rounds on Pads, 3-5x3min rounds on Bag, Knees on the bag, conditioning exercises
Afternoon Session: 10min skip, Stretching, Shadow Boxing, sparring, 5x3min rounds on Pads, and 5x3min rounds on bag, Grappling, Knees on the bag, Core work.
Matt: Do you prefer to stick to one sparring partner or change it up?
Tim: I like a bit of both, sometimes I just like banging on with one person, and especially if they fight how a person I’m matched up against does. Other times I like working with a range of people so I can keep mixing it up.
Matt: Do you use any supplementation to help your body recover in between training sessions?
Tim: Yes, Iain Winter from Body Nutrition Centre helps me out heaps with my supplementation. Check out his website www.supplementmart.com.au for all the best advice and prices! One product that I recommend very highly, especially for those with a high workload is Xtend from Scivation. Use it as a intra/post workout drink, it helps a lot with recovery. Other than that I take a protein blend shake post training as well to aid in recovery.
Matt: First thing you pack when you are heading overseas?
Tim: Mouth guard and my ipod.
Matt: Favourite fight entrance music?
Tim: Anything really that’s got a heavy bass line and pumps me up. Last track was Chase n Status – Smash TV.
Matt: Anything you would like to say to your fans?
Tim: Thanks to everyone who supports me with what I do, and pushes me to be the best I can be. Wouldn’t be where I am without you.
