Matt: Which division did you compete in?
Jess: I lifted in the women's 58kg category.
Matt: How do you combat the flight overseas and the time difference?
Jess: It wasn't too bad at all, it was only a 3 hour time difference. I found the biggest struggle was the temperature and humidity change which was hard to deal with. I only had one day to adjust before I lifted.
Matt: How was your body feeling leading into this event and more importantly the shoulder? You had a good hit out a couple of weeks ago with a PB lift.
Jess: Body was feeling pretty good. Mostly had a sore calf but managed to numb it out with heaps of deep heat! Felt positive going into the comp because I had lifted so well the week prior.
Matt: What numbers were you aiming at to lift?
Jess: I wanted to snatch 65kgs and clean and jerk 82kgs, but unfortunately only ended up with a 60 snatch (best is 64). Your only supposed to have 3 attempts of each lift but they had to give me 4 attempts because they made an error in the time they gave me to lift my 2nd attempt which put me way off. In the end I guess I was lucky to have 4 attempts because the 4th one was the only snatch I was successful in! I also only got 77 clean n jerk (best is 79). So its back to the drawing board to try and smash it next time.
Matt: Does your training change at all between comps depending on the weight you lift? For example if you lift well in the snatch, but not so well in the clean and jerk do you focus more on the Clean and jerk aspect?
Jess: It can, however its more based on the technical errors which occurred during the lift in which you may start to do more specific exercises that break down the lift to fix the problem.
Matt: Most girly thing you have taken on this trip?
Jess: Hair straightener.
Matt: A saying that you use way to often?
Jess: That's awesome.
Matt: Favourite thing about competition day?
Jess: The adrenalin.
Matt: Any supplements you use?
Jess: Just the usual, protein powder and multi-vitamins.
Matt: Anything you would like to say to the fans?
Jess: Do weightlifting, its awesome.
