I work as a Intensive Care Paramedic in the Logan/Beenleigh area and as a Clinical Deployment Supervisor on the Gold Coast for Queensland Ambulance Service.
What is the reason you continue to be involved in the sport/motivation?
I love the challenge! Age or injury will be the only thing that stops me from competing.
Your Favourite Domestic and International Strongman/Powerlifters?
Strongman: International: Derek Poundstone, Travis Ortmyer
Domestic: Mark Wells and Eben Le Reu
Do you find that strongman/powerlifting has helped you in your day to day life, how so?
If you can push yourself through a 6 event strongman comp, daily life becomes easier. It also helps when throwing kids around (playing with them of course) or carrying patients out of houses.
People that have inspired you not only in sport but in life aswell?
I would really have to say my wife and my mom. Seeing how a mother loves her children should be inspiration for any person. How a mother can work a 10 hr day, come home and cook a meal, and still have the time to read to her child that night inspires me.
Great experiences that happened in your life?
Being a United States Infantry Marine for 8 years of my life.
Your Interests and Hobbies?
Strongman is my only hobby and right now my only interest.
Family Background and current family?
I have one sister who lives in the US and I am married with 4 children (3 girls and 1 boy).

The birth of my children.

4. My dad
5. My brother-in-law
These people are true heroes in my life.

Determined

Favourite Foods/Type of diet you follow?
I follow a seafood diet. What ever I see, I eat. No really, I try to get 4 protein/carb shakes in a day plus 3-4 other meals. I don't count calories or watch what I eat. I eat normally. If that is a pizza with the kids then I'm happy. I eat vegetables with almost every meal and we normally eat a very good home cooked meal. We try and teach our children how to eat correctly and that sweets are a treat.
Favourite Bodypart to Train plus training spilt(training schedule + fav session)
I don't really have a favorite body part. Because strongman is back/shoulders/legs I would have to say I really love my deadlifts, squats, and overhead presses.
Describe a typical training day
As soon as I wake up I down a protein/carb shake. About a hour later I have breakfast, take the kids to school, then go to the gym. For legs or back I am trying a volume/heavy approach. I work up from a light weight to a heavy weight for reps and then all the way back down. I do the same for overheads. During even training I will do the event over and over until I cannot do it safely again. Basically to fatigue. What I have found out with strongman is if you want to get better at events, do them over and over. It is working so far. Anyone have a 18ton truck I can practise pulling?
Worst injury you have suffered
I rolled my ankle practicing with a 150kg for a duck walk event. Healed in two weeks and I was back to training. I have been lucky to be healthy throughout my training.
Who has been your greatest rival?
No one. If you travel from state to state there are so many different competitors. The majority will stick to their state, not want to travel.
Who would you like to compete against?
No one in particular. I enjoy the competition from anyone.
Competitions you have competed in including placings?
2009 was my first year competing. I competed in 3 competitions and came last or 2nd last in each one.
2010:
Queensland State (Toowoomba) Strongman Contest,<105kg, March 2010, 2nd
Lawnton Novice Strongman Contest, No Weight Classes, October 3, 2010, 3rd
Lawnton Amateur Strongman Contest, Heavy Weight Class, December 13, 2010, 4th
Australian Strongman Nationals, Ballarat, Victoria, January 26, 2011, 8th
Glasshouse Mountains Strongman Contest, 3/4/2011, 4th
Brisbane's Strongest Man, 29/5/2011, 3rd
Rock Solid Strongman Competition, Woollongong, NSW, 31/3/2011, 6th
Future Competitions planned?
My next competition is September 17, 2011 in Redlands, QLD. I will be competing in the pro- amateur category. After that I have been invited to compete in a two day competition back in Woollongong in October. This will be a strongman/highland competition and will be my first highland games comp.
What competitions would you like to win?
The Strongman Nationals, QLD State Titles, Brisbane's Strongest Man, and Australia's Strongest Man.
People you would like to thank? (sponsors, coaches, friends, family)
I am sponsored by MonaVie and Nutrition Warehouse. Without the support from these two great companies I couldn't compete at this level. My wife and children are my main supporters. They never let me down.
Anything further you would like to add?
If anyone is interested in strongman training I would be happy to have them train with me. I have a mixed schedule working as a medic and no week is the same. I train near my house when doing event training and in the gym for deadlifts and squats.
