How did you become involved in Weightlifting?
I became involved in Olympic Weightlifting when the SA Weightlifting Association offered me a scholarship after attending my school to run a class.
Age you started Weightlifting comps?
15
Height, Weight Off-season and Comp weight, DOB or AGE?
157cm, lift in the 58kg body weight class but tend to hover around only 55-57kg. Birthday is 13 November 1986, which makes me 25.
Accreditation's/Certificates/Degrees?
Bachelor of Interior Architecture, Graduate Certificate in Building and Planning. Currently seeking accreditation as a Building Surveyor with the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors.
What is your current business/job/location?
Building Surveyor with a local Council in Adelaide.
What is the reason you continue to be involved in the sport/motivation?
Just can't get enough of the sport. I think it is so good for people to do, especially women. I think a big part of me wants to keep going to prove to other girls that weightlifting is not bodybuilding and you won't become unattractive from participating in the sport.
Your Favourite Domestic and International Weightlifting?
International, Marilou Dozois-Prevost.
Do you find that weightlifting has helped you in your day to day life, how so?
It has given me direction. It is the only constant thing I can see will be in my life forever.
Great experiences that happened in your life?
Living, studying and training in Toronto, Canada. Meeting the President of the Maltese Weightlifting Federation.
Your Interests and Hobbies?
Weightlifting, catching up with my friends, going to gigs, watching TV.
One tip or quote which continues to inspire you?
Your only as good as you are on your worst day.
Family Background and current family?
Dad is Australian, Mum is Maltese and I have a brother.
Happiest memory
Making the 2012 Australian team to compete at the Oceania Championships.
Future Goals in life?
Representing Australia at the 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games.
What one item can you not live without
My phone.
Favourite holiday destination?
Malta.
Do you have a sporting mentor?
Nicole Chamberlain
Training Background(sports, etc)?
Gymnastics, swimming, netball and used to do a lot of dancing - ballet, jazz, tap, and highland.
Biggest Lifts and Favourite Lifts?
Snatch 62kg, Clean & Jerk 76kg.
Training Philosophy?
You only get out what you put in.
Favourite Foods/Type of diet you follow?
Just try to eat healthy, have lots of slip ups tho.
Favourite Bodypart to Train plus training spilt(training schedule + fav session)
I enjoy squats. Currently training 5 days a week. My favourite session is usually Saturday mornings when the track cyclists Anna Meares and Kaarle McCulloch are in, they are inspiring. Trying to see if I can train to eventually squat as much as them!
Describe a typical training day
Wake up, work, then training which consists of snatch, clean & jerk, pulls, squats and a few other exercises followed by stretching, protein then sleep to start all over again.
Worst injury you have suffered
Sprained ankle.
What is your favourite movie?
Too many to choose from.
What is your favourite music/band/song?
Again to much to choose from. Generally anything on Triple J.
What is your biggest fear?
Failure.
Do you believe "never giving up" is the difference between making it and not making it in any sport?
Yes, you can't stop. I think that is the biggest lesson I have learnt, you have to be consistent and never give up.
What inspired you to succeed?
I have competed in the sport for so long continually spreading myself thin over work, school and lifting. Now that I have finally finished my studies I am determined to make a name for myself in the sport of weightlifting.
What did you want to be as a kid growing up?
Actress
Who would you like to compete against?
Anyone, I love meeting people and seeing how they focus and lift in competition.
